Challenge
Perchspace faced the complex challenge of creating a seamless two-sided marketplace that would serve distinctly different user groups with varying needs and technical comfort levels. Space seekers needed an intuitive way to discover and book co-working environments, while space providers—ranging from coffee shop owners to art center managers—required straightforward tools to list and manage their venues without overwhelming complexity.
The platform had to balance the familiar booking experience users expect from platforms like Airbnb while addressing the unique considerations of co-working spaces: amenities like WiFi quality, noise levels, power outlets, and workspace atmosphere. Additionally, many potential space providers were small business owners who might be new to digital platforms, requiring an interface that wouldn't intimidate or confuse.
Approach
We began by mapping the distinct user journeys for both space seekers and space providers, identifying pain points and opportunities at each touchpoint. Through user research and competitive analysis, we understood how people currently discover co-working options and what friction points exist in existing solutions.
Our design process involved creating detailed user personas for both sides of the marketplace, from digital nomads seeking flexible workspaces to cafe owners looking to maximize their venue's potential during off-peak hours. We developed wireframes and prototypes that we tested with representatives from both user groups, iterating based on their feedback to ensure the platform felt intuitive regardless of technical expertise.
Working closely with the client, we refined a design language that is adaptable yet precise. Typography, color, and layout were developed to reflect both the practical and expressive qualities of the brand. Each element was tested across different formats to ensure consistency, from social platforms to editorial applications. The result is a system that communicates clearly while maintaining a distinct and recognizable character.
